Italian 'yarn sandwich' 2-ply wool gauze
contents: 100% wool
width: 61"
origin: Italy
My supplier found another roll of this, available by special order (just takes an extra day or so). A surprising, exquisite and very unusual fabric, and one of my all-time favorites! Between two layers of sheer black wool gauze are novelty wool yarns that have shimmering loops that look like sequins, in variegated tones of lilac, lavender, sage, apricot, etc.--- a "novelty yarn sandwich" is one way to express it! The effect is subtle and beautiful, and the fabric has a lovely drape with body. Even with three layer it's a little bit sheer so some styles may need lining. It's perfect for a special occasion jacket, dress, tunic, shawl, etc. to wear with basic black. Even thought it's all wool, it's quite light and airy, and would work for any season. It's all held together with thread, and the inner yarns can be exposed to create a fabulous trim at the hem if you cut your garment across the grain (see below). Dry cleaning recommended. Sold for $69.00/yd in New York.
